4. A really snazzy John McLaughlin goes up for auction at Bonham's next week (as part of their Made In California sale), as well a really ripe Julius Wasserstein, a sweet David Park, a swingin' late Elmer Bischoff and this obscene early Rushca.
On a trip to Chile in 2001. The poet-philosopher riffs on the need to be aware of cultural bias when in love, and how it fits into poetry. Rich talks a bit about her process as well. Brilliant. (Watch the whole piece, you.)
1. Zoe Strauss on the passage of California's Prop 8. Her new book America is out now (or soon. Not sure).
2. SFMOMA announced yesterday a survey of recent works by William Kentridge for March 2009. Put together by Mark Rosenthal, the show will include the large-scale multiscreen projection 7 Fragments for Georges Méliès - a fantastic piece that was at the Wexner a few years ago.
3. Tired of my tyrades about Berkeley's new love of socialism realism? Then check out Deborah Fisher's latest post. Fisher, who has created numerous piece of public sculpture, writes, insightfully, about the dynamics of public art.
4. How many times do I have to remind you? Visual Aid's benefit auction-shindig-party thing is this Saturday night (November 8). Why am I hassling you about this? Well, it's not just because I am sponsor (which I am), and it's not just because a piece of mine is in the live auction (which it is -- and it is my favorite recent painting), it's because the money goes to really important people -- artists with life-threatening illnesses.
5. Merce Cunningham's troupe is performing "Craneway Event" at Richmond's expired Ford plant on Sunday November 9. Two shows at 1 and 3 pm in this amazingly beautiful early 20th Century factory (right across from the Red Oak Victory Ship).
1. Utrecht is offering 15% off your entire purchase before November 9. Might be a good time to grab a few of those gallon buckets of Golden’s gesso. Tell the cashier to use promo code 89949.
2. AFC points out that scrawny art chicks prolly aren’t getting it as much as overweight women.
3. Got a pile of affordably priced art sitting around the studio? OAG needs it for their holiday sale. Email them (holiday@oaklandartgallery.org) by the end of the day, if you want in on it.
4. Oh yeah, SFMOMA has a newly designed website. It's a little dizzying. But don't trust me, I'm not much of an interface experience person, try it for yourself.
